Titanic in Branson, Missouri
A unique destination shaped just like the magnificent ship itself, the Branson Titanic is the world’s largest Titanic museum attraction. Opened in 2006, it is built to half scale and is anchored in water so that it creates the illusion of being at sea. Currently, it contains 20 galleries and about 400 artifacts from the famous vessel, each with some sort of tie to a real passenger or crew member who sailed aboard the ship. This one-of-a-kind museum has quickly become one of the area’s most visited attractions and one that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages, regardless of their knowledge of the Titanic and its demise.
This is truly an “experience” attraction and one that begins as visitors “board” the ship to learn more about the last fateful hours of the HMS Titanic, which sunk in April 1912. Each visitor is given a boarding pass which includes the name of one of the Titanic’s 2,200 passengers. By the end of their 90-minute self-guided tour, guests learn what happened to their passenger by visiting the attraction’s Memorial Wall.
This very interactive museum also lets guests climb a replica of the ship’s grand carved staircase, stand on the ship’s bridge and listen to the captain utter his urgent commands, touch a chilly “iceberg”, feel the cold breeze the passengers felt on that fateful night, send an SOS from the wireless room, and experience life on board for all passengers, including replicas of the magnificent staterooms of the first class passengers and models of the small cabins that steerage passengers called home for the duration of their voyage.
Besides hands-on exhibits, visitors to this unique museum can view rare historical artifacts from the ship, which include items like Madeleine Astor’s life jacket, the only remaining flotation device that can be definitively linked to the Titanic. Guests can also explore an exclusive exhibit of the only known photos of the Titanic, including both interior and exterior shots. There’s also an 18-foot Titanic model, the largest on display anywhere in the world.
