When Is the Best Time to Visit Branson, Missouri?

It’s not unusual to see vacationers in Branson at any time of the year, but exactly when you choose to head to this Midwestern destination spot depends on a lot of factors including whether or not you’re traveling with kids, how flexible your schedule might be, what kind of activities you wish to enjoy, and what type of budget you’ve established for your vacation.

Though Branson is certainly a four-season destination, there are certain times of the year when the pace slows down and other times of the year when the crowds are pretty abundant.

Summer

Summer in Branson brings scores of families with kids, so if you’re traveling with school-aged children, this is most likely the time you’ll choose. Vacationers start arriving in mid-June and the crowds tend to continue until about the last 2 weeks in August, when many school kids in the South and Midwest head back to the classroom.

During the summer, the attractions in Branson offer the most shows and longest hours, but it is often necessary to make advance reservations if you have your heart set on seeing a certain performance. Hotels, B&Bs, inns, and campgrounds also charge the highest rates during this time but it’s still possible to snag some good package deals that might include accommodations and tickets to shows or attractions.

For those who want to enjoy watersports, this is the best time of the year to visit. Lake Taneycomo and Table Rock Lake offer an abundance of different water activities including swimming, diving, fishing, and boating. There’s also plenty of other opportunity to commune with nature, including hiking the many nature trails that wind through the mountains and forests of the region.

Fall

The high season in Branson pretty much continues through the fall, thanks to moderate autumn temperatures and the beautiful colors that pop out during this attractive season. Shows continue with a busy schedule though visitors will find a few less choices during this time of the year. Golfing is popular as is hiking and other dry outdoor activities.

Those who are traveling without children find this a desirable time to visit Branson as the crowds have dispersed and tickets to shows are easier to come by. Also, hotels and other lodging establishments tend to lower their prices a bit.

Winter

Winter is the low season in Branson, but not until after Christmas. Many people head to the city to enjoy the many holiday offerings here, including special Christmas shows at Branson’s many theaters and a chance to view ornate holiday decorations or take part in other special events and activities.

In January and February, some attractions close as do a few theaters. Other theaters cut their schedules drastically, offering only a few shows a week, so if you’re planning to arrive during the chilly winter months and have your heart set on a particular show, it’s a good idea to check schedules before making plans.

Those who do decide to head here during the thick of winter will indeed find drastically reduced lodging prices and plenty of room availability.

Spring

Considered the “shoulder” season in Branson, spring brings pleasant temperatures but often lots of rain, which can put a real damper on outdoor activities. However, if you’re coming for the shows and other indoor attractions, you’ll find that it’s a good time to visit because hotel rates are good and you’ll most likely experience at least a few pleasant days where outdoor activities are possible.
